SORRY

This blog will be allowed to slowly expire, as I have discovered another blog-site which is much quicker, more professional, and easier to use. Right now it took me 15 minutes just to get the page to open! Not interesting.

I may be by once in a while to say hi, but ...

Sorry.

Following in Adam's footsteps?

Trying at least. Today being day 1, I'm obviously doing good, motivation and inspiration on top. It was a little sickening, the cottage cheese for breakfast this morning, but tomorrow will be different as that white, clumpy stuff comes later in the day :) I have varied my "lean meats" so far by using chicken breast and milk-fed veal liver, and I'll probably have another slice of the liver for the next meal too. Not much fat there as far as I can see. Picked up salmon oil and multivitamin capsules - not tablets - as per recommendation from someone who really knows, and the workout program for tonight is all ready and staring at me from my desk.

The before-pic isn't taken, yet. No time this morning! We had plans of getting up and doing cardio before breakfast, but somehow a nice half hour under the covers seemed more appealing with the blizzard outside. Yeah, we have a good 5" already, fine, powdered snow. Ideal for those who enjoy skiing, but as the roads haven't been cleared yet (at noon!?!) driving is only fun if you 1) know your car and 2) don't freak out when the rear end goes sideways on you. Yeah, I had fun :) when I took the Golden Retriever to get groomed this morning. True, I left the car at the groomer's and walked the block to a store I needed to go to rather than drive up and around (no U-turns allowed, makes for big detours) but that only meant I got a little cardio done in the process. Getting home with the Golden, I took both dogs for a walk in the snow, they loved it!

We shall get the pics taken tonight so we have something to compare the end result to. One day I'll even post them :)

New Link, check this out:

I've just tonight added a link to my friend Adam's blog in the margin of this blog. What he has accompished is totally inspiring, and I certainly aim to copy his journey by going from 23.4% bodyfat to 15% by the end of June this year! Ambitious? Maybe, but I know how he did it, whose advise he followed, and sitting here with that same "blueprint" in my hands as well as the BFFM "bible", the only thing that could sabotage my success is ME.

Why me? Because the main problem with any resolve, is keeping it, sticing to it, keeping the focus and motivation. Anyone who has read BFFM knows that there is an entire chapter devoted to goal setting before there is even a mention of nutrition or training. This is because there is nothing more important than having fixed, positive, clear goals.

I have the blueprint, read it on screen today and printed it just now - for the first 5 days - to be studied more closely tomorrow. I shall then proceed with a detailed shopping list, remembering that I am planning this for 2 people, of different gender and weight but with the same deadline for the same goal (OK, he wants 10% bodyfat and I'm aiming for 15%, but that's ok, that's the gender difference).

Pictures? I know, Adam posted pictures every day. I am in total admiration to that, because although it's great to show your body after such a success, it takes real guts to show the initial ... well, gut. Am I that brave? Time will tell :) but even if I don't give you a daily picture, I will post a final "before and after" type thing in early June, and that's a promise!

Anyone else want to join in? The summer, with pool parties and beach trips, is 5½ months away for anyone living north of the equator. That is enough time to make a more than serious dent in your bodyfat! So, anyone ready to get ripped? Contact me, and we can do the journey together!

How to Increase Fat Burning by 30%!

A proven and simple fat loss technique that is often overlooked is water consumption. Researchers from Humboldt University, utilizing a technique known as whole-room indirect calorimetry, discovered that drinking water activates your body's natural ability to burn fat. Drinking 500 ml (16 ounces) of water in one sitting increased metabolic rate by a whopping 30%! To harness this simple fat burning technique drink 16 ounces of purified water upon waking and 5 minutes before every meal. Pant sizes will decrease.

PUSH UPS WITH AN ADDED DIFFICULTY

Ever seen one of those? I'm not talking about the Smith Machine which is a rather old contraption, but the push ups exercise with your hands placed on swivelling handles attached to either end of a rope!

Stable? Not really! That's the beauty of it, you have to stabilize yourself in all directions as well as lowering and raising your body by the strength of your arms and pecs, and it also forces you to tighten your core muscles.

When doing 3 sets of these push ups after a full 3 sets barbell bench press and 3 sets incline bench dumbbell flyes, you surely feel it the next day! Love it!

Try it on for size and let me know what you think!

HAPPY NEW YEAR ... I hope!

Why the "negative" note in the heading? Well, I hope most of us have come through the Holidays with a minimum of "hurt"!

Probably quite a few of us have added a little fat to our bodies (I know I have). BUT unless we sit down and cry over that fact and let ourselves go, there is NO reason that Holiday-fat should stay on for long. It's an INTERLUDE, not a permanent state of fact!

In fact, the "fresher" the fat, the easier it seems to be to get rid of it. It's the settled fat that seems near impossible to get rid of. By reacting at once and changing our eating habits back to what we KNOW to be the best (lean protein, whole grains, vegetables, controlled amounts of fat, NO transfats or hydrogenated fats, plenty of water) we'll rapidly be back to pre-Holiday bodyfat.

Sometimes it seems that a small up-turn of the fat actually helps me get lower than before when I get serious again right away. As if the body senses that there is food out there, it just had a lot! A temporary, and controlled, calorie deficit right after a period like the End-of-the-Year Celebrations will make me plummet as well in bodyfat as overall weight - I can't build muscle as fast as the fat goes, but at least I don't lose any!

It was back in the gym again yesterday. The basement home-gym was happy to be of service :) the muscles glad to move again. For different reasons, it was back-of-body day yesterday, with a lat pulldown, one-arm Db row, one-Db pullover; an overhead triceps extension, a lying extension with two Dbs, using one of them for crunches in the rest period, and a French press; stiff legged deadlifts (120 lbs, new personal record!), lunges, leg curls and finally seated calf raises.

Today I feel my triceps in certain movements, glutes a little, and strangely my abs a little bit - normally I never feel my abs at all, no matter what I do, so this is great! My lats are present as well :) Nothing painful anywhere, I just have this good overall feeling of having used my muscles, and I missed that.

Being sick for 10 days doesn't really send you running to the gym! Even shifting in my seat made me cough like crazy, two days I had a well-above-average fever, and my whole head felt congested. Not ideal for a workout, in fact it was not an ideal way to spend the Holidays at all. Now that they are over, I'm fine!

Oh well, never mind. I'll just lower my head and charge full speed into 2007 and the lowewst bodyfat % I've ever had, without losing any total weight at all. In fact, I'd rather increase it, why not?!

Train, eat clean and be happy :)
